Rub-a-Dub-Dub unfolds within a crowded seaside environment where funfair attractions, rubber ducks, inflatable toys and recurring jellybean characters occupy a world shaped by leisure and entertainment. Set against a backdrop of piers, arcades and industrial structures, the work combines familiar symbols of pleasure with systems that appear to keep the entire environment in motion.
Clouds of smoke rise from winding mechanisms while visitors move through rides, games and attractions, creating a scene filled with activity, repetition and reward. The atmosphere is playful and inviting, drawing on the visual language of childhood holidays, amusement parks and seaside escapes.
Beneath the surface, however, the work hints at the cycles that underpin these experiences. Attractions promise enjoyment, distraction and novelty, yet their repetitive rhythms suggest something more persistent.
Through its combination of spectacle, leisure and industry, Rub-a-Dub-Dub explores the relationship between pleasure, reward-seeking and behavioural patterns, creating a world that feels both entertaining and quietly unsettling.
